So I kind of had a little moment of realization to help define art for me - and I think now I can maybe start creating it for real (or like one of my favourite art quotes go, "fake it 'til you make it"). Before, I had only considered art to be things like painting, photography, sculpting, music composition, etc... Just standard things, you know, that involve a lot of skill and talent. But I was thinking about something I heard before, and it kind of inspired me to come up with a new criteria for art - Anything, ANYTHING at all, created with skill and passion, in pursuit of beauty. So I'm feeling a little bit artistically disgusted with myself after comparing my photographs to others a little too much. I think I need proper instruction, this self-teaching thing isn't working for me so much. Any photographers out there want to give me some tips, I'd really appreciate it.
